Guided Tours of the ‘Bergkristall’ Tunnel Complex – National Day

On 26 October, Austria’s National Day, the ‘Bergkristall’ tunnel complex was open to the public for guided tours. Just under 400 participants joined a total of eleven tours and took the opportunity to view the tunnels and learn more about their historical context from the Mauthausen Memorial educators.

The ‘Bergkristall’ tunnels formed part of the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp complex. Thousands of prisoners constructed the subterranean tunnel system, which was used by the arms industry.

The next public guided tours of the tunnels will take place in early May.
