Liberation Ceremony Gusen on 9 May 2026
KZ-Gedenkstätte Mauthausen / Holly Kellner

On 5 May 2026 the liberation of the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camps will be commemorated for the 81st time. This anniversary will be marked with a memorial ceremony at the former Gusen camp on May 9.
The event’s theme is “We stand together!” and explores the importance of solidarity in today’s society. The subsequent procession will lead participants together to the Memorial de Gusen.

The ceremony will conclude at 6:15 pm with a wreathlaying at the memorial – a quiet moment of reflection and remembrance. Yet this commemoration is more than a look back: it builds a bridge to the future, connecting generations and nations, and keeping alive a shared message – that we stand united, support one another, and work together for freedom and humanity.

In order to ensure a dignified and safe process, access to the former crematorium area will take place in limited group sizes. We kindly ask for your understanding that this may result in occasional short waiting times.
